The Ramateertha dharma yatra was an agitation called by two alliance partners—BJP and Jana Sena—protesting the vandalism of the Lord Rama idol at the Sri Rama Swamy Devasthanam, located at Ramateertham village in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.
BJP state president Somu Veerraju was arrested as he tried to climb the Ramateertham hill with supporters. BJP state secretary Vishnu Vardhan Reddy and other JSP leaders were also arrested. Most of the leaders were house arrested. Section 30 of the CrPC was enforced in Ramateertham and surrounding areas to prevent any untoward incidents.
Former CM N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the government had acted negligently in the incident of demolition of the idol of Lord Rama in Ramateertham village. He said that the government had failed to prevent attacks on the temples and demanded a CBI probe into the series of incidents.
Some of the BJP leaders demanded a judicial probe into all the attacks. But the Minister belonging to Uttarandhra, where the Ram temple attack took place, Avanthi Srinivas said that it was unfortunate that the statue of Lord Rama was destroyed in Ramateertham and suspected that a conspiracy angle was hidden in the incident.
