Sumer Pratap Singh, a 2012 batch IPS officer from the Haryana cadre, took charge as SSP Traffic and Security in the Chandigarh UT Administration on Monday. Sumer Pratap Singh had been posted as DCP in Panchkula since December 2022. Before assuming charge, the newly appointed SSP, Sumer Pratap Singh, also met Chandigarh UT DGP Praveer Ranjan and SSP Kanwardeep Kaur. The newly appointed SSP stated that people coming from outside Chandigarh would be made aware of the traffic rules. Chandigarh, being the capital of two states, Punjab and Haryana, will not allow drivers from outside to be unnecessarily harassed, and no one will be allowed to disobey traffic rules.

Sumer Pratap Singh will serve the Chandigarh UT Administration for three years. This post had been vacant after the withdrawal of Haryana Cadre IPS Manisha Chaudhary, SSP Traffic and Security, from the service of the Haryana Government, effective from November 30, 2023. In place of Manisha Chaudhary, Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP Chandigarh, was given additional charge as SSP Traffic, Chandigarh. A Haryana cadre IPS officer is appointed as SSP Traffic and Security in Chandigarh for three years. Sumer Pratap Singh’s name is among the list of honest police officers in Haryana. Sumer Pratap Singh is a law graduate from Punjab University, having received all his education from Chandigarh. His father, Narendra Singh Brar, is a retired PCS officer from Punjab. ‘

Sumer Pratap Singh’s wife is also an IFS officer, posted in the RTA in Panchkula. Sumer Pratap Singh has served on many important posts in Haryana, including twice as ADC to the Haryana Governor. He has also been the ASP of Panchkula in 2014, as well as SP in Yamunanagar, SP in Kaithal, SP in Bhiwani, SP in Telecommunication, SP in Law and Order, and SP in Security CID.

After Manisha Chaudhary returned to Haryana, the Chandigarh administration had sought a panel from Haryana for the appointment to the post of SSP Security and Traffic. Five IPS officers had applied under this panel, including Deepak Gehlawat, Sumer Pratap Singh, Smiti Chaudhary, Mohit Handa, and Narendra Bijaranya, who had expressed their desire. For the appointment to the post of SSP Security and Traffic, the minimum service of IPS should be nine years, due to which Mohit Handa and Narendra Bijaranya were not eligible under this condition.
