BJP councillors have lodged a complaint with MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra, urging action against Mayor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor for an alleged illegal budget meeting held on March 6. The councillors contend that the meeting, which incurred significant expenses for food, breakfast, videography, and preparation, was not permissible under the law.
The BJP delegation, led by State General Secretary Amit Jindal and Hukam Chand, submitted a written complaint to the Secretary of Government, Local Government, and Municipal Corporation Commissioner, requesting an investigation under Section 416 of the MC Act. They argue that the budget meeting called by Mayor Kuldeep Kumar was illegal and meaningless as it occurred without the formation of the F&CC (Finance and Contract Committee).
Highlighting that legal opinions had been sought regarding the meeting’s legitimacy, and despite the Municipal Corporation Secretary advising the Mayor to postpone it, the meeting proceeded. The BJP councillors assert that without F&CC discussion, the budget presentation is entirely illegal and void. Accusing Mayor Kuldeep Kumar of disregarding rules, the BJP councillors emphasize the illegality of the proceedings under sections 405, 406, 422, and 423. They claim that despite objections and the Corporation Secretary’s refusal, the meeting proceeded, leading to significant expenditures on lunch, breakfast, videography, etc. The councillors demand the recovery of these expenses from Mayor Kuldeep Kumar. Alleging a disregard for the law by AAP and Congress councillors, the BJP councillors express concern over potential future misuse of their positions. They call for strict action to prevent any abuse of power and ensure accountability for their actions. The BJP councillors emphasize the need to halt any misuse of authority and prevent such actions in the future.
