The senior Aam Adami Party (AAP) leader Sanjay was not allowed to take the oath as Rajya Sabha M.P. on Monday, February 5. Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar didn’t allow Sanjay Singh to take the oath as MP.
The chairman, Jagdeep Dhankar, said that the matter is currently under the privileges committee. However, earlier on Saturday, the Rouse Avenue court allowed Sanjay Singh to take the oath as Rajya Sabha MP.
The senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh has been arrested and charged in the Delhi Excise Policy money laundering case. According to ED, Sanjay Singh played a key role in the formulation of the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy, which benefited certain manufacturers and vendors.
On July 24, last year, Sanjay Singh was suspended from Rajya Sabha due to repeatedly violating the directions of the chair’. However, he was again elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha last month, along with other AAP candidates Swati Maliwal and N. D. Gupta.
On the other hand, Aam Adami Party leader and Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj reacted to the decision and said what the chairman had done was totally against the Constitution of India. He cannot deny that the AAP leader to take an oath during his new term.
“I think the Chairman of Rajya Sabha is going against the constitutional provisions of this country. Article 99 says that every member shall take the oath. This matter of privileges was related to his membership, which has already expired. You cannot deny him taking the oath in his new term. I think they are just politicising it…’’ said Saurabh Bharadwaj.
