PM Modi gifts Ram Temple replica to French Prez Macron, makes UPI payment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi showcased his commitment to digital payments during a visit to the Pink City, where he utilised his mobile phone to make a digital payment. The gesture took place when Prime Minister Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron visited Hawa Mahal as part of a roadshow. While introducing President Macron to the cultural heritage, the leaders decided to explore the local markets.
Modi guided Macron to shops near Hawa Mahal, showcasing Rajasthani attire and handicraft items. During the visit, at one shop displaying a replica of the Ram Temple, Modi shared that the consecration of the idol of Lord Ram as a child had taken place in Ayodhya on January 22.
Providing Macron with a detailed narration of Lord Ram’s life story, the French President was deeply impressed.
Modi, in a gesture of goodwill, purchased a replica of the Ayodhya Ram Temple from the shopkeeper and gifted it to Macron.
The shopkeeper revealed that Macron expressed interest in visiting the Ayodhya Ram Temple, and when PM Modi enquired about the price in rupees, he surprised everyone by making a digital payment of 500 rupees through the Bhim App.
The shopkeepers expressed their reluctance to accept payment, considering the dignitaries’ visit as invaluable.
However, Modi insisted on making the payment, emphasizing the value of their craftsmanship. During their visit, Modi and Macron also enjoyed tea at a local vendor’s shop. Despite the vendor’s reluctance to accept payment, Modi insisted on paying one rupee per tea, showcasing his appreciation for local businesses.
This episode reflects the leaders’ camaraderie, their interest in local culture, and Prime Minister Modi’s advocacy for digital transactions.
