Actor Johnny Depp expressed that directing the biopic of painter Amedeo Modigliani, titled ‘Modi,’ was a “fulfilling” and “transformative” experience, as per a report by Deadline. Marking Depp’s return to directing after 25 years, the biographical drama stars Riccardo Scamarcio, Antonia Desplat, Stephen Graham, Bruno Gouery, Ryan McParland, Luisa Ranieri, Sally Phillips, and Al Pacino.

Depp, sharing his thoughts on the filmmaking journey, stated, “Embarking on this cinematic journey as the director of Modi has been an incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience. I would like to express my profound gratitude to the entire cast, crew, and producers for their unwavering commitment and creativity.”

Acknowledging Al Pacino’s contribution to the project, Depp added, “To Al, who requested that I make this film–how could I refuse Pacino? A sincere acknowledgement for generously contributing his talent and dedication to this project. Modi is a testament to the collaborative spirit of independent filmmaking, and I am excited to present this unique and compelling story to the world.”

Mostly shot in Budapest, Romania, with Al Pacino’s scenes recently captured in the United States, ‘Modi’ explores the 48-hour whirlwind of events in the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani amidst war-torn Paris during World War One. The narrative portrays Modigliani’s attempt to escape the city and terminate his career, encountering challenges from the authorities and his bohemian peers. The story intensifies as he meets a collector who holds the potential to transform his life.

Produced by Depp’s European production company, IN.2, in collaboration with producer Barry Navidi, the film is wrapping up production. The first behind-the-scenes images of Johnny Depp directing ‘Modi’ have been revealed, offering a glimpse into the making of the biopic. Depp recently starred in the Cannes French-language drama ‘Jeanne Du Barry,’ as reported by Deadline.
