Joining the BJP in 2014, he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Ghaziabad in the same year’s general elections and was re-elected for the same seat in 2019.

Before this, he has also worked as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and as the Minister of State for the Development of the Northeastern Region. In the 2014 elections, General V.K. Singh was nominated as the BJP candidate and won with a significant margin of around 500,000 votes, leading to the confiscation of bail bonds for all contestants.

The voting pattern in Ghaziabad has changed in recent years, shifting from caste affiliations to a focus on development. Ghaziabad has approximately 2.9 million voters.
