In yet another incident in Abohar, Punjab, farmers have been hit by a water crisis due to a canal breach near Malikpur Minor, along the road leading from Abohar to Kikar Kheda.
The received information indicates that a breach in the canal near Malikpur Minor, approximately 50 feet in length, has inundated several acres of farmland belonging to the affected farmers. The distraught farmers revealed that their wheat, vegetables, and other produce have been submerged in water, resulting in substantial losses.
Narrating the incident, affected farmers shared that they reported the breach in the canal to the authorities as soon as they discovered it last night. However, no officials arrived at the site until morning. By the time the morning came, water had already entered the fields in the village. Expressing their frustration, the farmers mentioned that water had begun to enter their homes as well. They warned that if the issue is not promptly resolved, they would resort to staging protests on the roads.
Upon communication with officials regarding the matter, it was disclosed that they had received information about the canal breach during the night. However, due to excessive fog during the night, work could not commence. The officials further mentioned that the water flow in the canal has been stopped from the rear end.
