IPL Auction: A look at every squad, with Starc emerging as the most expensive player in the league

Australia pacer Mitchell Starc made history on Tuesday at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Dubai when he was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for an incredible Rs 24.75 crores. This was only hours after his captain, Pat Cummins, broke the Rs 20 crore mark after being signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

According to Olympics.com, Sam Curran, an all-around player for England, cost Punjab Kings (PBKS) INR 18.50 crore in the previous year’s auction, making him the most expensive player in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

332 players from 13 different nations were up for purchase at the IPL 2024 auction. Indians made up 216 of these. A maximum of 77 seats, including 30 overseas player quotas, were available to the 10 clubs combined in the IPL 2024 auction after player retention, releases, and swaps.

Nevertheless, 72 players were chosen throughout the bidding process since only KKR (23) and RR (22) chose not to pursue their full quota of 25 players. But all thirty spots for foreign players were taken.

Apart from Starc and Cummins being the IPL players who initiated the 20 crore club, the following players at the IPL 2024 auction commanded premiums of at least 10 crore: Indian pacer Harshal Patel (Rs 11.75 cr to PBKS), West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph (Rs 11.50 cr to RCB), Australian pacer Spencer Johnson (Rs 10 cr to GT), and New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell (Rs 14.00 cr to CSK).
