As sub-zero temperatures persist in Kashmir, accompanied by shallow fog, the Meteorological Department anticipates dry weather prevailing in the region until December 16.
MeT officials reported, “Shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue at many places in the Kashmir division.”
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the mercury settled at minus 1.5 degrees Celsius, marking a rise from Monday’s temperature of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, which had stood as this season’s lowest so far. Today’s temperature in Srinagar was 1 degree Celsius below the normal for this time of the year.
In the picturesque Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the temperature dropped to minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, a marginal decrease from the previous night. However, it remained 0.7 degrees Celsius above the normal range for the resort.
Meanwhile, Pahalgam in Anantnag recorded a low of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius, a notable climb from the previous nights minus 4.7 degrees Celsius, registering 2.3 degrees Celsius above normal. Kokernag experienced a minimum temperature of minus 2.3 degrees Celsius, slightly below the normal by 1.2 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund saw the mercury dip to minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, a slight decrease from the previous night. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, remaining 0.7 degrees Celsius below normal.
In the plains, Jammu recorded a minimum of 9.8 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal by 0.6 degrees Celsius. Other areas in the region, including Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah, reported temperatures ranging from 2 to 4.3 degrees Celsius.
As the winter chill intensifies, residents brace for the continued cold spell, with the Meteorological Department closely monitoring the weather patterns in the coming days.
