J&K Police initiates stricter adherence to SoPs after Inspector Wani’s attack

In a proactive measure to prevent incidents similar to the attack on Inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani at Eidgah on October 29, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has issued fresh directives ensuring strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs). The announcement was made by ADGP Law and Order, Vijay Kumar, during a press briefing at the District Police Lines (DPL) Srinagar.
Addressing reporters, ADGP Vijay Kumar emphasized that all officers and personnel, regardless of their rank, are now mandated to adhere to SoPs both while on duty and during leave. The move aims to enhance security measures and avoid vulnerabilities that could make the police force susceptible to attacks.
“Fresh directions have been passed to one and all to follow SoPs diligently to prevent becoming soft targets,” Said ADGP Kumar. The decision comes in the wake of Inspector Wani’s tragic demise after sustaining injuries in a terrorist attack during a cricket match at Eidgah.
Responding to questions about potential intelligence regarding the October 29 attack, ADGP Kumar acknowledged that there were inputs about a possible terrorist attack. However, he added, “Mistakes happen at times, and in this case also, a mistake happened, and we lost an officer.” Kumar assured that a fool-proof mechanism has been implemented to avoid incidents similar to the one at Eidgah.

Regarding the perpetrators behind Inspector Wani’s killing, ADGP Kumar affirmed that those involved would be either eliminated or apprehended soon. However, he cautioned against revealing specific details about the ongoing investigations.

The wreath-laying ceremony for Inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani, held at DPL Srinagar, witnessed the attendance of senior officers from the administration and police. Floral tributes were paid to the fallen cop as a solemn acknowledgement of his sacrifice.
