ZPM Leader Lalduhoma Set to Assume Office as Mizoram CM on December 8

Lalduhoma, the leader of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and the incoming Chief Minister of Mizoram, met with Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati to stake his claim to form the state’s government. Lalduhoma will be sworn in as Chief Minister on December 8 at Rajbhavan.

In discussions with ANI after meeting the governor, Lalduhoma highlighted the government formation process and imminent policy focus. “We’re honored by the governor’s assurance. Our priority is agricultural products, with four items shortlisted,” he stated.

Addressing the issue of Myanmar refugees in Mizoram, Lalduhoma affirmed their Indian citizenship status. “They are all Indian citizens. I’ll discuss this with the Home Minister during my Delhi visit. He has assured full cooperation,” Lalduhoma mentioned.

Ahead of the swearing-in, he thanked the populace for their support and announced the immediate goals of his administration. “After the ceremony, I’ll hold a press conference to announce our top priorities,” he said.

According to the results announced on December 4, the ZPM won a landslide victory, claiming 27 of Mizoram’s 40 assembly constituencies.

In celebration of their win, ZPM held a special worship service, with newly elected MLA Baryl Vanneihsangi crediting women in society for her victory. “I dedicate this win to every woman in our society and community,” she proclaimed.

ZPM’s triumph breaks the MNF-Congress alternating power trend in Mizoram. Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer, transitioned from ensuring Indira Gandhi’s security to ZPM leadership, steering the party to a significant win.

His career, beginning in 1977, featured notable roles such as leading an anti-delinquency squad in Goa. Lalduhoma later entered politics, representing Mizoram’s lone Lok Sabha seat in 1984. Founding ZPM, he charted a new political trajectory in the state, establishing the party as a key player.
