HYDERABAD

Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy accuses Chandrababu Naidu of indulging in rowdy behaviour.

TDP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and other TDP MLAs were on Monday suspended for a day from the state Assembly. The suspensions came after the TDP MLAs led by Naidu staged a sit-in in front of the Speaker’s podium in protest against the alleged highhanded behaviour of the ruling YCP government. The TDP was angry as its members were not being given any chance to speak on the contentious issue of cyclone relief to the farmers and the affected people.

The TDP members were also agitated that Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was making “unparliamentary remarks” against the Leader of the Opposition in the House. The suspended TDP MLAs include Chandrababu Naidu and TDP Andhra president K. Atchannaiudu. In view of heavy cyclone damage, the TDP was demanding that the government give compensation immediately to help the farmers take up the rabi crops. The Opposition party was also demanding cyclone relief assistance to each poor family who lost their livelihoods. The TDP criticised that the government promised to pay the crop insurance premium by itself, but it did not fulfil its promise. The government should stop betraying the farmers any further and immediately pay the compensation. The farmers were not getting the micro irrigation subsidy.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy and other members took strong objection to the conduct of Leader of Opposition Chandrababu Naidu in the Assembly and a resolution was adopted seeking action against him. The Chief Minister said, “While we have agreed to have a discussion on Agriculture, the TDP leader has come to the House by design to hog the headlines and staging a sit-in at the podium and his body language has been objectionable”.

“Even I was the Leader of Opposition in this House and I never disrespected the House in such a manner. He tried to do rowdisim in Assembly,” the Chief Minister said.

Ethics Committee Chairman Ambati Rambabu said that such conduct by Naidu with 40 years in public life is highly objectionable and steps should be taken to prevent such scenes in the future. The resolution was adopted and the Speaker reserved his ruling. “It is unfortunate that such a situation should come up in the House. The Leader of Opposition seems to be in confusion and every member should follow the rules. The resolution is adopted and will be considered at an appropriate time,” the Speaker said and adjourned the House for the day.
