The BRS and Congress are not at odds in Telangana 2023. It’s about KCR against Revanth. In the Kamareddy Assembly Constituency, there is also a contest to watch between KCR, the current Chief Minister, and Revanth, a contender. A younger face with less than half of the electoral politics veteran’s experience is challenging him.
When Revanth left the Telangana Rashtra Samithi for a short time in 2004, he intended to run for the Kalwakurthy seat. However, due to the seat-sharing arrangement, the Congress was given the seat, and Revanth was unable to secure a ticket. He subsequently entered the Zilla Parishad election in 2006 as an independent. With Sankireddy Jagadishwar Reddy, he faced a formidable opponent. Revanth convinced several other Jagadishwar Reddys in the area to run as independents in an attempt to disorient the electorate and win the election by less than twenty votes. “Streetsmart” is Revanth Reddy’s common middle name.
History of Revanth Reddy
Telangana-born Anumula Revanth Reddy is an Indian politician. In the 17th Lok Sabha, he is an MP for the Indian National Congress and represents the Malkajgiri constituency. Twice, from 2009 to 2014 in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and from 2014 to 2018 in the Telangana Assembly, he represented the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the Legislative Assembly (MLA) as the representative for the Kodangal constituency. In October 2017, he joined the Congress and left the TDP. In June 2021, he was elected as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president.
Subsequently, Revanth Reddy became a member of Telugu Desam and won two elections from the Kodangal assembly constituency from 2009 to 2014. It’s interesting that in 2009, when Chandrababu Naidu unexpectedly asked him to run, he had no knowledge of the Kodangal constituency. However, he worked hard and garnered nearly 7,000 votes, understanding that this could be his big break.
His elevation to the Congress and his appointment as Telangana chief were strongly resented by the Congressmen from the old world. Competing candidates charged him with bribing to win the job. But what really set him apart was his capacity and readiness to take on KCR. By doing this, Revanth has revitalized the tired Congress team, of which half were thought to be KCR’s speed dial Trojan horses. Because of this, Revanth has given the Congress party, which is an established party, new packaging and branding in rural Telangana. His strategy of matching abuse for abuse and rhetoric for rhetoric has allowed him to take the fight to the BRS camp and pierce the deeply held beliefs of the KCR family.
In 2018, KCR exerted great effort to successfully remove Revanth from Kodangal, realizing that he was the party’s rising star. Following his rehabilitation, Revanth was elected to the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha in 2019. Revanth, the principal campaigner for the party in Telangana, is not playing around this time. He has given two of his brothers the task of managing the campaign in Kodangal, and another pair of brothers is in charge of Kamareddy.
Manickam Tagore, the former general secretary in charge of Telangana, describes Revanth as a remarkable storyteller. For all constituencies, Revanth is the most sought-after Telangana Congress candidate due to his ability to connect with the masses through the use of colloquialisms. This election has spread his appeal throughout the state of Telangana.
Revanth knows that his career could be made or broken by this election. A defeat would surely bring down the Congress, and he would be made the scapegoat. However, if he wins and receives Rahul Gandhi’s backing, he might be able to take over as Telangana’s 54-year-old chief minister.
