The war against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir not over: DG Police

Amid ongoing challenges in the fight against militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, the Director General of Police for the union territory, R R Swain, asserted on Monday that while security forces may face losses, their commitment to the battle remains unwavering.
Speaking to reporters after paying respects at Srinagar’s Chatipadshai Gurudwara during Gurpurab, DGP Swain emphasized that the war against terrorism is not over. “The war will only end when one side acknowledges that there is no benefit in it and it will not take them anywhere other than bloodshed,” he stated. Despite acknowledging the reality of losses, Swain affirmed, “We cannot back down from this war.”
In response to a question about the impact of snowfall on infiltration, Swain explained that it is a matter of strategy and cannot be openly discussed. “Infiltration increases at some places and decreases at some others with every snowfall,” he noted. The remarks come in the aftermath of a recent operation in Rajouri, where five army personnel, including two captains, lost their lives. However, the operation also resulted in the elimination of two terrorists, including a high-profile Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander who had received training in Afghanistan.
Despite the challenges faced by security forces, DGP Swain asserted that the objective is to minimize losses and continue the fight until the opposing side realizes the futility of the conflict. The dedication of the security forces to maintaining peace and stability in the region remains resolute, even in the face of adversity.
