In a significant operation, the police, in collaboration with security forces, apprehended three terrorist associates affiliated with the proscribed terror outfits Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF) in Baramulla. The arrests were made during joint Naka checking and patrolling with 13 SIKHLI, 185 BN BSF, and Baramulla Police at Kalgai near Jhula Foot Bridge.
On November 25, 2023, two individuals identified as Zameer Ahmad Khanday and Mohammad Naseem Khanday, residents of Madiyan Kamalkote, were intercepted while coming from Kamalkote towards NHW carrying bags. A search operation led to the discovery of 3 Chinese grenades and cash amounting to 2.5 lakhs. An FIR was registered in Police Station Uri under relevant sections of the law.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that the grenades and cash were provided by Manzoor Ahmad Bhatti, a resident of Madiyan Kamalkote, for the execution of terrorist acts. Manzoor Ahmad Bhatti was subsequently taken into custody. Upon questioning, he disclosed the location where he had concealed one Chinese hand grenade and cash amounting to 2.17 lakhs.
The recovered weapons and incriminating materials indicate a nefarious plot to carry out terrorist activities in the region. The investigation is ongoing, as security forces work to uncover further details and prevent any potential terrorist acts. The successful operation highlights the commitment of the police and security forces to maintaining peace and security in the area.
