The Mundawar assembly constituency in the Alwar district has a unique identity with historical, industrial, and political significance. The presence of the Japanese Zone in Neemrana and the palaces in the region distinguish this assembly constituency. It is also the political stronghold of the renowned former minister Ghasi Ram Yadav, known as “Rath Kesri.”
Ghasi Ram Yadav’s political base was also in this assembly constituency, and he held sway here for a long time in the past. Due to his efforts, this area became a stronghold of the Congress party.
However, after Yadav’s demise, this seat slipped from the Congress’s grip and went into the hands of the BJP. Gradually, politics took firm roots here, and it became more about communities than political parties. Sometimes, a Yadav candidate contests from here, and at other times, it’s a Jat candidate. The politics here is influenced more by communities than party affiliations. One party offers a ticket to a Yadav, while another chooses a Jat candidate.
While talking about the political history of the Mundawar assembly constituency, in the 1951 state assembly elections, Ghasi Ram Yadav was elected as an independent legislator. In 1962, Hari Prasad Yadav from the Congress won the seat. He repeated his victory in 1967.
In 1972, Ram Singh Yadav from the Congress won the election. In 1977, Heera Lal from the Janata Party emerged victorious. In 1980, Ghasi Ram Yadav from the Congress became a legislator. In 1985, Mahendra Shastri from Lok Dal won the seat.
In 1998, Dr. Jaswant Yadav from the BJP secured a victory, and in 2000, Dharampal Chaudhary, also from the BJP, won. In 2003, Dharampal Chaudhary of the BJP secured victory again and became the legislator.
In the 2008 state assembly elections, Major OP Yadav from the Congress won, while in 2013, Dharampal Chaudhary from the BJP won the seat. In 2018, Manjeet Dharampal Chaudhary from the BJP became the legislator. In the current elections, while Congress has put up Lalit Yadav as its candidate, the BJP has nominated Manjeet Dharampal Chaudhary as its hopeful.
In terms of the caste composition in this constituency, there are 55,000 Yadav voters, 42,000 Jat voters, 27,000 Brahmin voters, 24,000 Rajput voters, 30,000 SC voters, and 7,000 ST voters.
The local issues in the Mundawar assembly constituency, include concerns about the lack of employment opportunities for local youth in industries, the presence of illegal mining in several areas, irregular traffic on main roads, and the absence of a bus stand despite Neemrana being a significant industrial area.
Many people in the constituency claim that the MLA Manjeet Dharampal Choudhary is not present in the area most of the time, which has hindered the progress of development and various projects. Some believe that he hasn’t been able to accomplish much in terms of development.
However, Choudhary argues that he has been among the people most of the time, working on the area’s development and people’s issues, even though he couldn’t achieve much due to his party not being in power.
