Ahmedabad has imposed night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am to curb spike in Covid-19 cases. The curfew will come into effect from Friday and will stay on indefinitely. Only milk and drug stores will be open during that time. The city reported a total of 46,022 till Wednesday.

Officials attributed the spike to the festival season when the city witnessed a huge rush which worsened the situation when coupled with irresponsible behaviour by many people who refused to wear masks and maintain social distancing. They, however, said hospitals in the city have enough beds to accommodate new patients.

More than 400 beds have been made available at Asarwa Civil Campus Cancer Hospital and Kidney Hospital. Likewise, 400 beds have been made available at Sola Civil Hospital. Apart from this, it is planned to set up 100 beds in Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for Sabarmati, Chandkheda, Motera areas near Gandhinagar in Ahmedabad city.

In Ahmedabad city at present there are 2,237 beds in government hospitals and 400 in private hospitals. Thus, officials said, a sufficient number of beds have been made available in the city for corona patients. “An additional 20 ambulances have been provided, in addition to the existing 20 ambulances of 108 Emergency Services providing services for hospitalisation to corona patients. The state government is allocating 300 more doctors and 300 medical students for Ahmedabad city today,” a top official said.

Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Dr J.P. Modi told The Daily Guardian, “At present 723 corona patients are undergoing treatment in 1,200-bed hospitals. Along with that now patients are also being shifted to Kidney and Cancer Hospitals. Out of the total patients, 384 patients are undergoing treatment with oxygen.”
