A couple had booked a room in a resort but when they reached, there the room wasn’t exactly how they had been promised. And because it was a festive season the rest of the hotels in the whole town were sold out. The man started making a scene at the reception and said, “We don’t want this room”. The receptionist said, “We are ready to give you a rebate if you don’t want the room, because there are other customers who want this room but I’m sorry this is the only room we have the choice is yours”.  The man was yelling because other people in the hotel had better rooms than him and comparatively, he had been given an unfair deal.   After much consideration knowing that they don’t have a way out, the wife went to the husband and said “Sweets, why don’t we just take this room and spend the night with happiness. After all we are just here for a night.” There are situations in life when you realize you don’t have a way out, you just have to do with what you have been given. That could also be the picture about life. Let us be reminded of the above words of Gurbani which might appease our burning heart.  Stop living life in envy of other people and burning yourself. Consider that this is just ‘one night stay’ in this world that you have and spend it with joy because your time never comes back.

“Nothing is more capable of troubling our reason, and consuming our health than secret notions of jealousy in solitude” Aphra Behn.
