Assam’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan said that more than 12 lakh people had been impacted by floods this year. The data that is currently available shows that 12,95,642 people have been affected, he said.
According to the minister, 133 embankments are in danger of being breached and 37 embankments have suffered damage. At least 1,106 roads maintained by the Assam Public Works Department (PWD) as well as 101 bridges have been damaged by the floods.
“The flood waters damaged 37 embankments, and 133 embankments are in danger of being breached,” the Assam Minister said.
In response of a question from Congress MLA Bharat Chandra Narah, Mohan said that so far this year, floods in the state have affected more than 23,000 homes in 3,335 villages.
“1663 animals died in floods in different parts of the state this year,” he added.
However, according to the officials, the state government has allocated Rs 137.20 crore and Rs 25 lakh, respectively, for free relief and rehabilitation in the wake of the GR Flood and the RG Flood.
