Land for Job Scam: Sanctions against Lalu Prasad Yadav obtained, says CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) notified Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday that the Home Ministry sanctioned former Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in connection with a new chargesheet in the suspected Land for Job Scam case.

The CBI notified Special Judge Geetanjali Goel, through Special Public Prosecutor Advocate DP Singh, that the sanctions against Lalu Prasad had been secured from the Home Ministry, but the sanctions against the three former railway officers had still to be received.

CBI further stated that the remaining sanctions are expected to arrive within a week. Taking note of the submissions, the Court scheduled a hearing on September 21.

Railways employees in the alleged Land for Job scam. The CBI has filed a chargesheet in the Land for Job alleged scam case against Lalu Prasad, as well as Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and others.

According to the CBI, this is the second chargesheet filed in the Designated Court against 17 accused in a Land for Job Scam case, including the then-Union Minister of Railways, his wife, son, the then-GM of West Central Railways (WCR), two WCR CPOs, private individuals, and a private firm.

On May 18, 2022, the CBI filed a case against the then-Union Minister of Railways and 15 people, including his wife, two daughters, and unknown public workers and private individuals.
