An interesting battle of ballots is on cards in the Ghosi assembly seat in the state of Uttar Pradesh, which fell vacant after the resignation of former minister Dara Singh Chauhan from the Samajwadi Party (SP). He, as a BJP candidate, is all set to face Sudhakar Singh of the SP.
The bypoll will be held on September 5 and the result will be declared on September 8.
The chances of the BJP candidate is strong here, especially after Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar’s joining of the saffron party.
In the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP had fielded Vijay Rajbhar from this seat. Former minister Dara Singh Chauhan had left the BJP and joined the Samajwadi Party at that time. At that time, Vijay Rajbhar had got 86,214 votes in the assembly elections. He had lost the election but Dara Singh Chauhan had got 1.08 lakh votes.
Earlier, Vijay Rajbhar got 68,371 votes in the by-election in 2019. Dara became SP MLA from Ghosi in 2022 and now, he has resigned from this seat and joined BJP again in last July.
In the Ghosi assembly seat with about 4.20 lakh voters, the number of Rajbhar voters is 55,000 and Chauhan voters are 45,000. On the other hand, the number of Dalit and Muslim voters is more than them. SP’s claim is being made more due to caste equations, but in this segment, Dara Singh Chauhan has a deep hold over his own Lonia Chauhan fraternity. Because of this, BJP can expect more from him.
The by-election for the Ghosi assembly seat is important for both the SP and the BJP. This I.N.D.I.A. alliance with the Samajwadi Party will also be tested. It also has to be seen whether Congress fields any candidate in this by-election or not. Till now, neither Congress nor BSP has declared any candidate.
