The Executive Board of Directors of the World Bank authorized a USD 363 million loan to Karnataka to supply two million rural households with clean drinking water through a piped water connection.
The loan will mature in 13.5 years, including a two-year grace term. According to the World Bank, almost 77 percent of Karnataka is arid or semi-arid and susceptible to climate change-related variable rainfall that can cause droughts and floods, deplete groundwater supplies, and worsen water quality.
