India generates 15-16 lakh formal sector jobs every month: Ashwini Vaishnaw citing EPFO

Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has stated that an average of 15–16 lakh formal sector jobs are created each month in India, citing data from the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization.

“In April, May, June, July, and August, on average, 15–16 lakh jobs got generated every month in the country. Data is available on EPFO and Ministry of Statistics websites,” said Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology, on Tuesday while addressing the “Rozgar Mela” in Ajmer, which was organised by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

In September 2022, the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) acquired 16.82 lakh net subscribers, a 9.14% rise in net membership over the same month in the previous year, according to provisional payroll data issued last week.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, net member additions have been increasing month over month in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and others.

The net enrolment for the month is 21.85% higher than the monthly average that was observed during the previous fiscal.

The appointment letters for new hires have already been distributed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approximately 146,000 people, in keeping with the Center’s push for employment under the Rozgar Mela.

The Rozgar Mela is anticipated to serve as a catalyst for increased job creation and give young people worthwhile opportunities for empowerment and direct participation in national development.
