War over next CM: Zameer Ahmed to face disciplinary action

Even though there was a temporary ceasefire between KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar and former Chief Minister S. Siddaramaiah over who is going to be the next CM if Congress comes to power with both agreeing that it was not wrong to be ambitious, Zameer Ahmed Khan, a turncoat from JDS who identifies himself as an aide of Siddu has now made comments out of turn inviting the wrath of the disciplinary committee.

In a series of media statements in the last few days, Zameer made statements out of line suggesting Siddaramaiah should be the next CM embarrassing party leadership.

“You cannot become CM with the support of one Vokkaliga community. Even I want to be the CM and there are more Muslims than Vokkaligas. Can I become the CM with just the Muslim votes?’’ said Zameer in Davangere on Saturday inviting wrath from Vokkaliga seer Nirmalananda Swamy who asked KPCC to reign Zameer and ask him to not make such comments and to not take Vokkaligas for granted.

“I urge Vokkaliga leaders including Kumaraswamy, Cheluvarayaswamy and R. Ashok to react to such comments coming against the community. Party should take action against Zameer for making such cheap comments,’’ Nirmalanda seer said in a statement released from the Adichunchanagiri mutt.

Following the statement released by the seer, the party is now issuing a show cause notice to Zameer. Earlier too, Rehman Khan, former deputy speaker of Rajya Sabha and head of the KPCC disciplinary said that Zameer has been asked to refrain from making such comments.

“Such unwarranted comments will not be taken lightly. The committee is issuing a show cause notice to Zameer,” sources in the party said. Reacting to Karnataka Congress MLA Zameer Ahmed›s statement that Siddarmaiah should be the chief ministerial candidate for the state, KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday had said that everyone should work to bring the party to power instead of worshipping any individual. Unrelenting Zameer again poked the bear saying he was entitled to his opinion and that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will decide who is the next CM. On Sunday Shivakumar said, “I will speak of only those who are of my level. Everyone should keep their mouth shut and work to bring the party to power.»

Speaking exclusively to The Daily Guardian, Shivakumar on Zameer episode said: “One should understand that such comments to please somebody will not help the party.

We have to work unitedly to bring Congress back to power. I don›t want to indulge in such silly wars with people who are desperately trying to hit way above their weight for cheap publicity.

I am sure the disciplinary committee has taken cognisance of the issue and let them decide on the action against him.”
