In the light of the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have seen a considerable change in how people are choosing to live by changing eating habits, hygiene and the general way they carry themselves outside their homes. From choosing what products to buy to making conscious diet changes, we have witnessed everyone make amends in their ways of life in some way or the other.
Before the onset of the pandemic, we saw a lot of people not following a healthy routine but these circumstances have pushed everyone to have healthy levels of antibodies to fight Covid-19 with their bodies and have made everyone shift to supplements to balance other necessary components like calcium, vitamin-D and stay healthier and above-average overall health. Vaccines are not the only way to increase antibodies, people from ancient times have been able to increase their overall body health and immunity by natural means and thus supplements in today’s generation are very important.
Ecommerce has also seen a steady rise in these times as contactless deliveries and orders make way into our daily lifestyles, it has also helped the nutraceuticals market grow exponentially. This has made it easier and more efficient to buy and order these supplements now from the comfort of your homes at reasonable prices. Additionally, brands are focusing on making the best supplements out of the top of the line ingredients. They have introduced consumers to upcoming and organic ingredients which have increased the demand exponentially for these supplements. For instance, about five years back, people were unaware of Biotin, the well-known supplement known for hair fall now. However, consumers need to do their own research on which brand to choose as many are following the ad hoc way and also producing these supplements in synthetic ways. Moreover, it is crucial to have a few parameters when buying these products online, these parameters should include:
● Research the name of the marketing company and google it to ensure their reputation online.
● Search the name of the manufacturer: This is very important and usually a good manufacturer will display their products online along with all their certifications and pictures to their manufacturing facility.
● FSSAI licence number of both manufacturer and marketer.
● Details of ingredients and their information. Go through all the ingredients and google these ingredients to ensure you are not allergic to any of them.
● Certificate of Analysis: Most companies display their COAs online and if they don’t you can contact them to ask for it. They are obliged to provide you with this information.
Furthermore, in light of the current times, such nutritional supplements will only see a rise in demand with everyone consciously shifting to healthier options in their daily routines as there has been a 28-30% increase in the demand for these supplements since April 2021. Around 150 million people in India have already made nutraceutical consumption a part of their lives. India only held 2% of the whole world’s nutraceutical market but is projected to grow to about 21% in the upcoming years.
According to FSSAI, India’s nutraceutical market is poised to be a global leader at US$ 4 billion to US$ 5 billion in the near future. Experts and reports suggested that it will grow to approximately US$ 18 billion by 2025. The dietary supplements market in India is valued at US$D 3924.44 million in 2020 and reports say that it will reach US$ 10,198.57 million by 2026. It puts the industry at a 22% growth rate year on year.
With all the growth prospects in the near future, it is also important for regulatory authorities to amend laws and develop clear cut guidelines for packaging, manufacturing etc. so that these regulations can help grow the industry as a whole and provide a platform for Indian Health Supplement manufacturers to pitch their products at the International Stage.
