The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated a 5% water cut across the city effective from today. This action is in response to the scheduled inspection and cleaning activities planned at BMC’s Bhandup water purification plant.

The BMC emphasized that the Bhandup water purification plant stands as one of the largest in Asia and undergoes routine pre-monsoon cleaning and inspection processes conducted by the civic authority.

Previously, on March 1, the BMC had proposed a 10% water cut in Mumbai due to dwindling lake levels. However, this proposal was revoked following assurances from the state government to address the water shortage from its reserve stock.
Areas situated at the end of the pipeline or on high-altitude slopes may face acute water shortages during this period.
