An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 struck Pakistan on Wednesday, sending mild tremors across parts of North India, including Delhi, according to the National Center for Seismology. The tremors were felt across several regions, sparking concern but no immediate reports of major damage or casualties.
The quake’s epicenter was recorded 25 kilometers southwest of Karor, Pakistan, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. In Pakistan, the tremors were strongly felt in major cities such as Islamabad and Lahore, leading to temporary panic among residents.
The tremors extended to several Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. In Delhi, residents reported feeling the quake, although there were no immediate reports of structural damage. The mild tremors led people in various parts of the capital to step outside their homes and buildings as a precaution.
While the tremors caused momentary panic, authorities in both India and Pakistan have not reported any significant damage or injuries so far. The seismic activity is a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to earthquakes, prompting people to stay alert.
