The Maharashtra governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari delivered a speech at Dr. Ambedkar Marathwada University, “when we were students we looked up to Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters. It is natural for students to look up to present icons. In Maharashtra, there are so many icons & Chhatrapati Shivaji is of olden times,” said Bhagat Singh.

Around 4,500 policemen have been deployed amid the Pune bandh on Tuesday. Several organizations and the opposition have called a strike against Maharashtra Government Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s controversial comments on Chhatrapati Shivaji.

1,100 personnel were deployed from the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj statue to the Lal Mahal in Kasba Peth. To prevent a law and order situation, Pune police issued prohibitory orders under section 37 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.

“We have sent approximately 1,100 police officers and about 1,000 police officers for the demonstration. For the rally to be conducted peacefully, all police stations have been asked to send out their teams to the scene. Over 3,400 people have been deployed throughout the city in addition to the 1,100 people who have been assigned to the event,” according to a senior police officer.
