Ather Energy, the Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, announced its entry into the Sri Lankan market on Wednesday, marking the company’s second international expansion after its successful launch in Nepal last year.

Collaboration with Evolution Auto

Ather Energy will partner with Evolution Auto Pvt Ltd, a joint venture formed by Sensei Capital Partners, Atman Group, and Sino Lanka Private Limited, to manage its sales and service operations in Sri Lanka. The first Ather Experience Centre is set to open in the upcoming quarter, providing Sri Lankan customers with a hands-on experience of Ather’s electric scooters.

Focus on Fast-Charging Infrastructure

In addition to the Experience Centre, Ather Energy plans to establish a robust network of fast-charging infrastructure across Sri Lanka. This move aligns with the company’s strategy to support the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) by making charging accessible and convenient for users.

Ather’s Growing International Presence

Ather Energy made its international debut in November 2023 with Nepal, where the company has since established three Experience Centres and seven fast-charging grids. The expansion into Sri Lanka is part of Ather’s broader global growth strategy, driven by the increasing preference for EVs in the face of rising petrol costs and the push for more environmentally friendly transportation options.

Sri Lanka’s EV Market Potential

Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, highlighted the potential of the Sri Lankan market: “Sri Lanka has been a part of our global expansion plans. With the increasing cost of ownership of petrol vehicles and the economic and environmental benefits of electric vehicles, the Sri Lankan market has shown an increasing preference for EVs.”

Ather’s foray into Sri Lanka is expected to boost the country’s EV adoption and further strengthen Ather Energy’s position as a leading player in the global electric two-wheeler market.
