The third edition of the Fresh India Show — a two-day event in the presence of ambassadors, farmers, industrialists, entrepreneurs and policymakers from all across the globe — was recently held in Delhi. The show comprised an international interactive conference, exhibition, networking meet, and awards. It revolved around further strengthening the avenues for the sustainability of the fresh produce business while analysing the short term and long term impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. Various ambassadors and diplomats were present there.

Dr Ashok Dalwai, Chairman, Committee on Doubling Farmers’ Income (DFI), highlighted the lessons learnt during the pandemic. He stressed upon the need to think together, work together to live together. He also emphasised the importance of a healthy diet. Adam Burakowski, Ambassador, Embassy of Republic of Poland talked about Poland’s contribution to fresh food exports to various countries. Hugo Javier Gobbi, Ambassador, Embassy of the Argentine Republic put the spotlight on the strategic association between India and Argentina. Marten van den Berg, Ambassador, Embassy of Netherlands described both India and Netherlands as superpowers in agriculture production.

Ali Chegani, Ambassador, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran revealed that India and Iran are in the process of signing an agreement on the trade of fresh fruits which will significantly reduce the taxes on fresh food items. Marcella, Zuniga Alegria, Trade Commissioner of Prochile, talked about the role played by Prochile, a Chilean government agency, in boosting the bilateral trade between Chile and India. Mark Rosmann, Agricultural Attaché, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) touched upon the long and healthy relationship that the US and India have enjoyed in agriculture, agricultural trade and research. Stefan Kessen, Custom Attaché, Embassy of Belgium discussed the measures taken to further explore the trade possibilities between Belgium and India. The event concluded with the announcement of the Indian Fresh Produce Industry Excellence Awards.
