Three days after four Jaish-e-Mohammed (KeM) terrorists were gunned down in Jammu & Kashmirs Nagrota, Border Security Force (BSF) troopers unearthed a 150-metre long tunnel through which the terrorists are believed to have infiltrated. The tunnel—on the international border in J&K’s Samba district—was discovered during a search operation in the area.

BSF officials said an underground tunnel was discovered by a patrol party and “could have been used for infiltration from across the border”.

All the four terrorists were killed in a gunfight when a Kashmir-bound truck in which they were travelling was stopped on Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Thursday. A huge cache of arms and ammunition, including 11 AK assault rifles, were recovered from them, who, according to security forces, had come to “disrupt” District Development Council polls, scheduled to be held in eight phases beginning 28 November.

The Army and police have also joined the operation, which is still on, the officials said.

Sources said that the tunnel was well-concealed and covered with soil and wild growth. “It is a new tunnel,” said a security official.
