Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that officials have been instructed to start at least 250 Indira canteens, one for each ward of Bengaluru.
He spoke to the media at Home Office Krishna today.
Discussions were held today regarding the resumption of Indira Canteens. Before 70% of the cost of Indira Canteen was paid by BBMP and 30% by the government. But now, it is decided that BBMP and government will pay 50 percent of the costs and the government percent. Indira canteens other than Bangalore, costs upto 70% will be paid by the government and 30% by the city municipals. Officers were instructed to provide the list of places in the state where new Indira canteens could be started.
Change in Indira Canteen Menu:
Indira Canteen’s menu will be changed and instructions are being given to officers to maintain good quality, quantity and cleanliness of the canteens. Rates will not be revised. He informed that the Indira canteen scheme will be relaunched after the completion of tender process. Tender process is being decentralised and zone wise tenders are being called, he said.
Officials told to hold enquiry:
Two people died in Koppal and one in Raichur due to consumption of contaminated water, he said that proper investigation will be carried out and the guilty will be punished.
