CHANDIGARH: Be it a school or college, shortage of Staff is most likely to affect the education institution. In continuation to this, what comes out is that schools in Haryana continue to witness a lack of staff at a large scale. The departmental data revealed that nearly 38 posts of teaching and non-teaching staff are lying vacant which is an alarming situation. There are 63179 sanctioned posts in the school education department of the state and out of these, 23696 posts are lying vacant clearly depicting the present scenario. Thus, with a 38% shortage of staff, the schools in the state are crawling in terms of study as well as administrative work. In wake of this, the need of the hour is to fill these posts as soon as possible.

It came to light that out of the total sanctioned post, a huge proportion of the Post Graduate Teachers’ post (PGT) is lying vacant. According to the statistics, there are 39298 sanctioned posts of the cadre in the senior secondary schools and among these, 13073 are lying vacant which constitutes nearly one-third of the whole. So in view of this, the government is required to fill these posts without any delay so that the continuous study of students studying in 11th and 12th standard can be ensured.

Apart from the mentioned above, it is also pertinent to mention that a sizeable chunk of posts belonging to administrative wings of the school education is lying vacant as well. It also affects the functioning of the schools. It adds to the woes as a lack of administrative staff affects the study process of the students to some extent. It is worth mentioning that about 50% of posts of the District Education Officers (DEO) and Block Education Officers (BEO) stand vacant as out of 64 and 119 posts of DEO and BEO, 35 and 55 are yet to be filled respectively.

On being asked about the new recruitment in the department, the education minister Kanwar Pal placed the data in a recent assembly session and said that the department has sent a written recommendation to the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) commission to fill more than 7000 posts of teachers in three categories including 3646 posts of PGT and 2636 posts of TGT. Besides, 952 posts of Mewat cadre are likely to be filled soon.
