Haryana’s Animal Husbandry department has come up with a plan to provide emergency treatment to the animals across the state at just one call and under this new initiative, 70 mobile ambulances will be purchased.
The government has given nod to the purchase of the ambulances and an amount of nearly Rs 14 crore has been sanctioned by the Central government. It came to light that a helpline number or toll-free number will be issued soon for the people looking for the treatment of their animals. These ambulances will be equipped with modern lab facilities as well diagnostic equipment which is likely to save animals from untimely death. Besides, a veterinary surgeon and animal attendant along with a driver will be deployed at the mobile van. Thus, the mobile ambulance is like a veterinary hospital on wheels.
JP Dalal, the Agriculture Minister, said that the department continues to come up with new initiatives in terms of treatment and welfare of the livestock. The government has approved the new project with an idea to provide timely treatment to the animals at just one call. Further, he said that most of the formalities have been completed.
The livestock census of Haryana was released and according to this, the number of livestock in the state is around 70 lakh. Out of this, the count of buffalo is around 43.5 lakh to be followed by 19.4 lakh cattle. Besides, as many as 3.6 lakh goats are in the state, followed by 2.66 lakh sheep, 1.08 lakh pigs lakh, and around 10,000 horses.
The animals suffer from a string of serious diseases which are likely to result in their untimely deaths. Milk fever, fever, and vector-borne disease continue to infect the animals requiring the animal experts to provide timely treatment to the affected animals. Besides, the animals suffer from infections or problems during delivery. So the launching of this scheme is most likely to benefit the animals as well as their owners.
Besides, the new scheme will benefit the agrarian community in the state as most of the farmers are involved in the occupation of animal husbandry.
