The Calcutta High Court has ordered a CBI probe into the SSC Group D recruitment case. A single bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay passed the order on Monday. The High Court feels that a CBI inquiry is required following an affidavit of the Board of Secondary Education.

The judge said, “I will ask the CBI director to form a committee on this. At least no officer below the DIG rank should be there. The committee will be chaired by the Joint Director. No one should get a discount. The preliminary report has to be submitted by December 21.”

During the hearing, Justice Gangopadhyay reprimanded the court one after another. There is a commission on one side and a board on the other. The commission, which has repeatedly claimed that it did not make the recommendation, said in an affidavit on Monday that it had made the recommendation. A thorough report has been submitted to the court along with a soft copy and a pen drive. Even after that, the commission did not recommend what it was saying, the question arose in the court.

The judge wanted to know if there was no recommendation of the commission, then whose invisible hand was here. On whose recommendation 25 people got jobs. They have been working for two years now. The judge also said that he wanted a CBI investigation into the incident. The reason for this is distrust in the state police. He does not want to disrespect any particular political party. Since there is a big conspiracy going on in this case, it can never be accepted in the interest of the people.

Opposing the CBI probe, lawyer Kishore Dutta questioned on behalf of SSC. He cited multiple observations of the Supreme Court. Hearing this, the judge remarked, “I will give you 5 minutes for what you have to say. Why don’t you want to understand that you have lost the case? It has become clear from your affidavit that the appointment was not made according to the rules. I have arranged for CBI to investigate it.” The judge added, “That is why the state is involved in this incident. Therefore, it cannot be investigated by any state agency.”

The plaintiff’s lawyer Vikram Bandyopadhyay said, “The court has asked for an inquiry. After investigation, the report has to be submitted to the court on December 21. We are happy that the matter has been handed over to the CBI.”
