Trump is ‘Very Disappointed in Putin’, Cuts Ceasefire Ultimatum from 50 Days to 12

US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, cutting the previous 50-day ceasefire deadline short to 10–12 days. Trump told reporters in Scotland after a summit with a trade delegation that he was “very disappointed” in Putin, particularly after the recent rocket attacks on Kyiv. Trump’s remarks mark increased frustration with the Kremlin and the intensification of pressure to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

Simultaneously, he spoke about the Israel-Hamas conflict and challenged hunger claims in Gaza. Trump’s new tone suggests a change in his global approach—less tolerance, more public threats, and tight deadlines for a ceasefire.

Putin Faces Shortened Ultimatum

Trump said he’d given Putin 50 days to work toward a ceasefire with Ukraine. That was all changed by the new developments, including fresh missile attacks on civilian areas. “Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city, like Kyiv, and kills a lot of people in a nursing home or whatever, you have bodies lying all over the street,” Trump said.

He announced that he would now shorten the timeline to 10–12 days starting from July 28. “I think I already know the answer to what’s going to happen,” he also said, suggesting skepticism regarding Putin’s readiness to end the war.

Kyiv Welcomes Trump’s Tough Message

Ukraine’s President greeted Trump’s stronger stand with approval. Presidential adviser Andriy Yermak tweeted, “Thanks to President Trump for standing firm and delivering a clear message of peace through strength.” He continued, “When America leads with strength, others think twice.”

Ukraine sees Trump’s pressure as a potent diplomatic tool after three earlier rounds of peace talks, including one on July 23 in Istanbul, did not deliver.

Trump Suggests Gaza Ceasefire, Contradicts Netanyahu

Trump also focused on Gaza. Trump questioned whether Hamas would release the 20 remaining Israeli hostages, referring to them as the group’s “shield.” But he indicated that a ceasefire could still be in reach and said he instructed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fight the war “a different way.

He quietly questioned Netanyahu’s assertion that Gaza has no starvation. Talking about pictures on TV, Trump said, “I mean, based on television, I would say not particularly because those children look very hungry.” This was during a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who repeated the concern and labeled the situation a “humanitarian crisis” and “absolute catastrophe.”

Global Ceasefires Under Pressure

This new stance by Trump suggests a turnaround. He seems desperate to set timetables and apply public pressure on belligerents in different regions. Invoking previous conflicts—like the India-Pakistan standoff—Trump asserted that if he were not president, “there would be six major wars going on.”

This general framework indicates a worldwide communications plan: don’t dawdle over negotiations, speed up peace, and claim victory. Whether or not this works is anyone’s guess, but it represents a sharp departure from Trump’s previous willingness to give leeway to authoritarian leaders like Putin.

What’s Next?

Trump’s shortened deadline gives extra impetus to Ukraine peace talks. His threats against Israel and Gaza commentary are part of a broader effort to demonstrate American power through international mediation.

As the US presidential election approaches, Trump is attempting to redefine himself from dealmaker to enforcer. Whether this approach constructs peace—or fails—is about to play out over the next several weeks.
