US President Donald Trump has ended the Secret Service protection for ex-vice president Kamala Harris, who was also his democratic rival in 2024, Reuters reported from a senior White House official.
Usually, former vice presidents enjoys the Secret Service protection for only six months after they vacate the office. However, Harris’ security detail was extended till January 2026 by then-President Joe Biden, as per the official.
As per the reports of CNN, the White House sent a formal letter to Harris confirming the news of change. It reads: “You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

Harris’ senior advisor Kirsten Allen shared that she has expressed gratitude for the protection provided to her during her tenure.
She said, “The vice president is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety,” Reuters reported.
Trump’s decision to remove the protection comes in the light of Harris’ upcoming promotional tour of her memoir ‘107 days’, which will be released on September 23. The memoir is a collection of her experiences during the campaign after Joe Biden dropped oit of 2024 race.
