Beneficiaries who have their birthdays after the 20th of every month are eligible to receive their payments by December 24. For many households, this date could not have come at a more opportune time when holiday expenses peak.
Who Gets Paid on December 24
Requirements remain unchanged for eligibility in December. To qualify, applicants need to meet the work credit requirements and age, disability or survivor requirements, depending on the type of benefit.
People who have longer work records and lifetime earnings may qualify for monthly checks of as much as $4,018. Obviously, the December 24th cut-off date is simply the way the calendar falls this year.
Social Security: January Payments & Holiday Pattern
Payments that are normally made in January 2026 will be dated earlier than usual. Because New Year’s Day is a federal holiday, payments that are normally processed at the start of January will be dated December 31.

Although this will make certain that no one misses a payment, it sometimes causes financial difficulties because two payments will be received within a short period.
Why Payments May Be Delayed
Delays are unusual, but they might occasionally happen. Changing addresses, particularly where benefits are paid, can cause problems. What To Do When A Payment Becomes Late

Adding to the complexities in the new year is an executive order that adds more federal holidays. With offices being closed from December 24 to December 26, in person services will be interrupted for five days in a row, including the weekend. Offices are expected to open on December 29.
