Prosecutors are urging the federal judges to reject Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request for a jury verdict or order a new trial after being convicted of two prostitution related charges in July.

Prosecutors Reject Combs’ Acquittal Request

Documents filed by federal prosecutors said that Sean orchestrated sexual events between two of his former girlfriends between 2008 and 2024. According to the prosecutors, these acts involved hiring male sex workers across state lines.

The rapper was accused of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges that carried a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 15 years. In July, a jury cleared the music producer of the conspiracy and trafficking charges, only finding him guilty on two charges under the Man Act.

According to the jury, the rapper was guilty of transporting sex workers across state lines. Both the proven charges carry a penalty of 10 years each.

In their documents, the prosecutor argued against Comb’s attorney’s claims, calling the Man Act vague. They said that “Evidence of the defendant’s guilt on the Mann Act counts was overwhelming.”

“At trial, there was ample evidence to support the jury’s convictions,” the prosecutors said.

The prosecutor also alleged that Combs blackmailed the victims with the sexual recording of the “freak-offs.”

“During these relationships, he asserted substantial control over Ventura and Jane’s lives. Specifically, he controlled and threatened Ventura’s career, controlled her appearance, and paid for most of her living expenses, taking away physical items when she did not do what he wanted,” wrote the federal prosecutors.

Sean Combs Denied Bail

The music producer and owner of Bad Boy Records was arrested in September 2024 at a Manhattan Hotel. He was placed in the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), Brooklyn, as he awaited trial.

During this period, his lawyers filed multiple bail requests, all of which were denied because Diddy would try to contact the victims and potential witnesses. The high-profile trial began in May, with everyone in the know keeping a keen eye on the developments of the case.

The Details of The Diddy Trial

The trial was conducted under Judge Arun Subhramaniyam with Marc Agnifilo leading Diddy’s defence. The lead witness in the case was Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who testified against Combs.

According to her statement, the music producer used to organise sexual meetups involving her and other male prostitutes, calling the encounters “freak offs.” The trial mainly revolved around her testimony, with prosecutors trying to use her statements to paint Combs as a sexual criminal.

Another anonymous testimony from another one of Diddy’s former girlfriends who went by the pseudonym “Jane Doe.” As per her testimony, Combs paid her a monthly allowance of $10,000 in exchange for sexual favours.

In their argument requesting an acquittal or a new trial for the media mogul, his lawyers said that the elements associated with the Mann Act did not apply in this case.

“It is undisputed that he had no commercial motive and that all involved were adults..The men chose to travel and engage in the activity voluntarily. The verdict confirms the women were not vulnerable or exploited or trafficked or sexually assaulted,” the lawyers wrote in their request.

The sentencing in the Sean Combs case is scheduled for October 3 2025.
