Long before Prince Harry shared his side of the royal family’s troubles in his memoir Spare, a physical fight reportedly broke out between him and Prince Andrew—years earlier. According to the upcoming book The Rise and Fall of the House of York by Andrew Lownie, the two royals had a serious altercation during a 2013 family gathering, which ended with Andrew bleeding from the nose.
Lownie describes a tense relationship between the Duke of York and his nephews, especially Harry and Prince William. The conflict reportedly escalated after Andrew allegedly spoke badly about Harry behind his back, which quickly led to a confrontation. The argument turned violent, and as per The Telegraph, “punches were thrown”.
One unnamed source told the publication that “Harry got the better of Andrew by all accounts.” Although others intervened to stop the fight, Andrew had already taken a blow to the face.
The Feud Didn’t End There
The book also claims that tensions only grew worse between the two. Andrew is said to have insulted Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle, reportedly saying their marriage wouldn’t “last more than a month.” He even accused Harry of having gone “bonkers” and failing to “do any due diligence into her past” before marrying her in 2018.
Following this, Harry reportedly told William that “he hated Andrew.”
According to Lownie, the friction had existed for years. He writes that Andrew often acted rudely towards Kate Middleton, which also added to the family’s frustration with him—particularly William.
Prince William Allegedly Wants Andrew Out of Royal Lodge
Lownie also reveals that Prince William has been trying to have Andrew removed from Royal Lodge, the large Windsor residence where Andrew lives. The author writes that “William has long worked behind the scenes to evict his uncle from Royal Lodge” and believes Andrew is abusing the privilege of living in the estate.
After King Charles reportedly ended Andrew’s £1 million yearly allowance, Andrew’s hold on the Royal Lodge has become weaker. This financial strain has seemingly given William more leverage in his alleged efforts to get Andrew out.
Royal Fights Aren’t New for Harry
This isn’t the first time Harry has been linked to a physical fight with a royal. In his own memoir Spare, Harry admitted that Prince William once shoved him during a 2019 argument over Meghan Markle. He claimed that the argument ended with him on the floor of Kensington Palace.
So far, Buckingham Palace has not commented on any of the new claims—and it’s unlikely they will.
Still, if these accounts are accurate, they highlight that the royal family’s internal conflicts run much deeper than previously known—stretching back years before Harry and Meghan ever stepped away from their royal duties.
