Donald Trump’s visit to Japan has become a viral talking point after The Daily Show aired a segment comparing the US President to a “show dog” being guided by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The satirical take aired this week following Trump’s visit to Tokyo’s Akasaka Palace on October 28 for the Japan-US Summit.
In a sports commentary-style parody, The Daily Show humorously described Trump’s movements through the grand palace, dubbing him the “Old American Beaver Hound.” The commentary mocked his posture, exaggerated salutes, and erratic walking pace as he followed Takaichi through the ceremonial space.
Trump’s Asia Tour Continues
Trump’s Tokyo visit is part of a multi-nation Asia tour that has included stops in Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea. The former US President is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week.
Before arriving in Japan, Trump made headlines in Malaysia for remarks about trade and energy independence. While in Japan, he also visited the USS George Washington in Yokosuka, where he encouraged Americans to “buy Japanese cars” and jokingly warned naval staff that “water could destroy their magnets,” according to The Daily Beast.
Satire Meets Politics — Again
This isn’t the first time The Daily Show has targeted Trump. The long-running Comedy Central program, known for mixing humour with political critique, has frequently mocked his behaviour on the international stage. The latest segment, however, stood out for its unique “dog show” commentary format, turning a formal diplomatic visit into a comedic spectacle.
Political analysts note that while the segment was intended for laughs, it reflects how international audiences perceive Trump’s unconventional diplomatic style. His gestures and unscripted moments often become social media sensations — sometimes overshadowing his political agenda.
As Trump continues his Asia tour, The Daily Show parody adds yet another viral moment to his long list of controversial and meme-worthy appearances abroad.
‘Old American Beaver Hound’ and His ‘Handler’
“Introducing one of the favourites of tonight’s show, the Old American Beagle hound,” the voice-over began. “He’s lively, aggressive, and incredibly horny.”
Another comedian added, “He’s in the care of expert handlers tonight, Takaichi.” The playful segment drew laughter online, with clips quickly going viral across social media.
The segment continued as Trump appeared to momentarily lose track of his direction, with the narrator joking, “Whoops! It looks like he’s wandered away from his handler — that’s going to cost him some points.”
The parody concluded with Trump stepping onto a platform beside Takaichi, as the commentator quipped, “And now one final trick, a leap onto the platform, and… nailed it!”
