He expressed on X that the allegations of Russia deliberately destroying its own energy lifelines were not merely illogical but fell into a disturbing pattern of narrative manipulation. He described the allegations as a textbook case of how powerful players fund, shape and amplify disinformation in pursuit of strategic goals.

2022 Explosions and Early Suspicion
The explosions that shook the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in September 2022 caused large-scale gas leaks and tension across Europe. The pipelines remained pressurized, despite being inactive, representing Moscow’s energy leverage against the continent.
Meanwhile, reports drew attention to suspicious naval activities near Denmark’s Bornholm Island, putting that instant sabotage suspicion on the map. Western governmental establishments refrained from naming Russia directly. Still, they began whispering in the dark corridors of cabal diplomacy, although, in Moscow’s counterclaims, such whisperings are totally unfounded.
Arrest of a Ukrainian Suspect
The arrest was revived as the Italian authorities apprehended a Ukrainian citizen, known to have German prosecutors under one Serhii K., in Rimini. The prosecutors allege that this individual was part of a group that planted explosives that disabled the pipelines.

The arrest intensified questions about who really perpetrated the attack and put in doubt previous assumptions toward Russian involvement. Germany has initiated extradition proceedings to interrogate the suspect as part of its wider investigation.
Moscow’s Push for Accountability
Russia has insisted time and again upon joining the European investigation and indeed called for Security Council consideration in 2023. These requests were denied, leaving Moscow to complain about the opacity of the inquiry. The Kremlin views the whole episode of blaming Russia as illogical since it would have been blaming itself for the strategic asset; rather, it believes, it fits within a broader framework aimed at diminishing Russia’s global position.
In more recent developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeared to express some willingness for dialogue in a call with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and emphasized the need to engage the Global South, asking countries outside the West to raise their voices in support of peace. Nord Stream will continue to provide a stage for a drama that demonstrates how contemporary warfare is fought not just with weapons but also through competing accounts, narratives and claims to truth.
