Confinement of Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan continues to create political uproar as his family and members protest against restricted access to him at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. The dispute mirrors an ever-increasing friction between the government, army and PTI.
Denied Access Sparks Protests
On December 9, Aleema Khan, along with senior PTI officials including Salman Akram Raja and Junaid Akbar Khan, organized a sit-in outside the jail after continuous requests to meet Imran Khan were turned down.
The PTI leadership cited multiple court orders allowing audience with Khan on Tuesdays and Thursdays, yet the prison authorities repeatedly refused access, fueling discontent among supporters.
Previous Meeting with Uzma Khan
Earlier, on December 2, Uzma Khan, another sister of Imran Khan, was allowed a 20-minute audience after weeks of blocked communication. She said her brother appeared healthy physically but was under psychological pressure.
Uzma quoted Khan as saying that he was being treated thus because of the Pakistan Army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, an assertion that ignited a stormy reaction from military authorities.
Government & Army Reaction
But sharply responding, the Pakistan government barred Uzma Khan and other relatives from further meetings on the grounds of violations of prison rules. Political discussions during jail visits are not allowed, said Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
Khan was described as mentally unstable and a narcissist by the army, escalating the political rhetoric over his detention.

PTI’s Stance on Legal Rights
The PTI leadership claims that seeing the party leader is a legal right, based on orders given by the courts. Chairman Gohar Khan condemned derogatory remarks directed at Imran Khan and stressed that political disagreements should not justify harassment or denial of basic rights.
PTI officials maintained the sit-in to keep public attention on the matter, framing it as both a legal and moral issue.
Court Orders & Legal Rights Under Scrutiny
Despite multiple court orders allowing meetings with Imran Khan on specific days, jail authorities have restricted access, raising concerns over adherence to legal protocols and prisoners rights.
