Pakistan is facing fresh turmoil as rumors about former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s alleged death in prison spread across social media. Afghan media outlets claimed Khan was “mysteriously killed” inside Adiala Jail, but Pakistani authorities strongly denied the reports, calling them false. Despite the denial, the secrecy surrounding Khan’s condition has triggered widespread protests and clashes outside the jail.
Is Imran Khan Alive?
Imran Khan has been kept in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since August 2023. He was arrested in several cases, including corruption and the handling of secret papers. PTI says he is kept alone in his cell and is not allowed to meet his family or lawyers.
Reports are now surfacing from inside the prisons of PUnjabi Pakistan that Imran Khan, who was being held in custody, has been killed by Asim Munir and his ISI administration according to several news outlets. When rumours spread online that he had died in jail, the Pakistan government denied it and said the reports were fake. But because his sisters have not been able to meet him for weeks, people are now more doubtful and worried about his real condition.
Where Is Imran Khan?
Imran Khan has been kept in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since August 2023. There are some reports that he is being killed, but there is no confirmation of the report so far.
Thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters gathered outside Adiala Jail, demanding proof of Khan’s health. Police reportedly used force to disperse them, while the government deployed soldiers to secure the prison. PTI leaders condemned the violence, calling it “state brutality” and demanding an impartial probe.
Imran Khan’s Sisters Denied Access, Brutally Assaulted
Khan’s sisters, Noreen Khan, Aleema Khan, and Uzma Khan, say they have been denied visitation rights for more than three weeks. When they staged a peaceful protest outside Adiala Jail, police allegedly attacked them.
In a letter to Punjab police chief Usman Anwar, Noreen Niazi wrote, “We peacefully protested over concerns for his health condition. We neither blocked roads nor obstructed public movement, nor engaged in any unlawful conduct. Yet, without warning or provocation, the streetlights in the area were abruptly switched off, deliberately casting the scene into darkness. What followed was a brutal and orchestrated assault by Punjab police personnel.”

She added, “At the age of 71, I was seized by my hair, thrown violently to the ground, and dragged across the road, sustaining visible injuries.”
Other women present were slapped and dragged, according to the sisters. They demanded immediate proceedings against the police personnel involved.
Isolation and Solitary Confinement
Khan has been in jail since August 2023, facing multiple cases. PTI claims he is kept in solitary confinement, denied books, essential items, and even access to his lawyers. His legal team described the situation as “the law of the jungle,” accusing authorities of stripping Khan of basic rights.
Even Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was denied permission to meet Khan despite seven attempts. PTI alleges that jail authorities are controlled by military officers, further fueling suspicions.
Pakistan Government’s Response
Pakistani officials insist Khan is alive and dismiss the death rumors as “fake news.” They argue that restrictions on meetings are due to “security concerns.” However, the lack of transparency has only intensified public distrust.
Growing Pressure on the Pakistan Government
The unrest outside Adiala Jail reflects growing frustration with Pakistan’s military-backed government. PTI supporters believe the secrecy around Khan’s condition is part of a broader crackdown on democracy. Analysts warn that continued suppression could escalate into nationwide instability.
The mystery surrounding Imran Khan’s condition has become a flashpoint in Pakistan’s political crisis. His sisters’ accounts of police brutality, combined with persistent rumors of his death, have ignited anger across the country. Whether Khan is alive or not, the government’s refusal to allow family or legal access has deepened mistrust and pushed Pakistan closer to political chaos.
