The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed it killed at least seven Pakistani soldiers during intense fighting in the mountains of Noshki, Balochistan. The battle reportedly lasted three days and also led to the deaths of four BLA fighters. Another injured BLA member, hurt in a previous clash in Surab, has also died, according to The Balochistan Post (TBP).
Pakistani Army Launched Offensive on July 19
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the Pakistani military began a major operation on July 19 in the Noshki area. The offensive involved the use of helicopters and drones. In response, BLA fighters launched attacks in several locations to stop the army’s advance.
The most intense fighting took place in Sheshari, where the two sides fought at close range for two days. The BLA claimed that seven special forces commandos were killed and many others were injured. However, the BLA also confirmed the loss of four of its members during the battle.
BLA Vows to Continue Armed Resistance
The group said it would continue its armed campaign with more determination. “We remain committed to the national liberation cause,” Jeeyand Baloch stated, according to TBP.
Ongoing Insurgency in Balochistan
This clash is part of a long-standing insurgency in Balochistan, where separatist groups, including the BLA, demand more autonomy and recognition of Baloch rights. In recent years, such groups have stepped up attacks on military personnel, paramilitary forces, and government buildings.
The separatists argue that the federal government is exploiting Balochistan’s vast natural resources without benefiting the local population. In response, Pakistan’s military has launched numerous counterinsurgency missions.
Concerns Over Human Rights Violations
While the government claims these operations are necessary to restore order, human rights groups have raised serious concerns. They report widespread cases of forced disappearances, unlawful detentions, extrajudicial killings, and the excessive use of force.
Many activists and ordinary citizens have allegedly been detained without due legal process. These actions have led to growing fear and mistrust in the region. Rights organisations warn that the military’s harsh tactics are making the situation worse and deepening the divide between the Baloch people and the central government.
