On Monday, Donald Trump bestowed the blessing of a wonderful day for the Middle East upon the ceasefire declaration in Gaza. Gaza Peace Summit 2025: Key Voices & Implications

Raw signals from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt indicated hope for closure on this issue and the birth of a new chapter. He called for an ending of the Gaza war to herald a more meaningful peace for the region, stressing the long-standing two-state avenue as the path for settlement.

Trump declared that this day has been awaited by the whole world returning hostages, granting humanitarian corridors and now challenging the common task of Gaza reconstruction. He was insistent that the rebuilding be demilitarized while remaining focused on the future rather than past wars.

India, Pakistan & Regional Goodwill

The summit gave Trump the opportunity to address South Asia. Referring to India and Pakistan, he offered the hopeful prediction “they are going to live very nicely together.” He commended the military leadership in Pakistan and advocated goodwill for the region.

These comments were made amid wider calls for reconciling and cooperating a reminder that the ripples of this peace process are anticipated to reach far beyond Gaza’s borders.

Gaza Peace Summit 2025: Netanyahu’s Absence & Implications

The absence of Benjamin Netanyahu was one of the most talked about points of discussion in the summit. His presence was originally anticipated but he later refrained from attending. His office in a formal note cited the observance of a Jewish holiday as a reason for the absenteeism, but many reports have pointed towards very strong diplomatic pressures emanating from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and some predominantly Muslim countries.

Some diplomats say Turkey warned it would itself boycott the summit if Netanyahu appeared. His absence adds another line of tension in the peace process almost all stakeholders support the peace process with Israel’s leadership largely absent during arguably the most critical moment.

The ceasefire deal in Sharm el-Sheikh aims to be a major diplomatic push from war towards rebuilding, from division into fragile cooperation. However, missing key players, fragile commitments and the huge-scale reconstruction of Gaza mean there is hardly any peace just beginning. What follows from here may just as well determine whether this agreement marks a historic turning point or simply represents another missed chance.
