A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido on Monday, with the quake triggering noticeable shaking across several districts and sending local residents briefly into alarm, media reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said despite the strength of the quake, “there was no risk of a tsunami.”
Swaying was most felt in the eastern Hidaka and southern Tokachi districts, where shaking was a level 4 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale.
