Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen firmly rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that America would take over the island. On Sunday, Nielsen posted a strong response on Facebook.
“President Trump says that the United States ‘will get Greenland.’ Let me be clear: The United States will not get it. We do not belong to anyone else. We decide our own future,” he wrote.
Trump Hints at Military Action
Earlier, Trump spoke to NBC News about acquiring Greenland. Notably, he did not rule out military force.
“I think there’s a good possibility that we could do it without military force,” he said. He justified his interest by emphasizing security concerns. “This is world peace, this is international security,” he added. However, he clarified, “I don’t take anything off the table.”
Greenland and Denmark Strongly Reject the Idea
Meanwhile, Trump’s remarks sparked outrage among Greenland’s leaders and citizens. Danish politicians also firmly rejected his suggestion.
Furthermore, when asked if his statement would worry Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump bluntly replied: “I don’t care.”
