Tashkent: Six people were killed and five others injured in an explosion at a liquefied gas filling station for household gas cylinders in the Karshi district of Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya region on 8 June.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a report of the incident in the Chaman mahalla was received at 13:50. Five rescue units were dispatched to the scene and arrived at 14:02.

The fire was contained at 14:05 and fully extinguished at 14:55. Preliminary information indicates that four vehicles were damaged by the blaze, including two Cobalt passenger cars and two gas transport vehicles, as well as two underground fuel storage tanks.

On the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a government commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov has been established.

The commission has been tasked with organising assistance for the injured, overseeing response and recovery measures, determining the cause of the explosion and preparing proposals to prevent similar incidents in the future.
